NSBE SCSD Summer Camp at Syracuse University

Each year the National Society of Black Engineers Syracuse City School District Chapter holds a week long Summer Camp for members and those interested in participating at Syracuse University. This camp is a collaboration between the Syracuse City School District, National Grid, Syracuse University, the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), and NSBE Chapter at Syracuse University (SU).

For one week during the summer more than 40 students in grades 7 through 12 live in the dorms at Syracuse University and develop their science, literacy and math skills, working on various projects, listening to guest speakers and doing an “Amazing Race’’ activity. The “Amazing Race’’ is a culmination of math, science and literacy clues and riddles that the students complete all while exploring the SU campus.   While at camp participants did team building activities, learned about their personality traits and what they mean, ate meals on campus and were exposed to the endless career possibilities that are available to them with a STEM education.
